If you visit the bamboo temple, you may want to visit nearby Jomyoji as well. Although the simplest of the 5 zen temples designated as the Kamakura Gozan (5 mountains of Kamakura), the gardens are not without charm, and if you are in the mood to relax over a cup of green tea, the newly opened tea house which was once reserved only for monks, affords a lovely open air-view of a traditional rock garden.

Behind the main temple is a large hillside cemetery with the small Kamatari Inari Shrine nearby, which is said to be where the name ‘Kamakura’ originated.
