Dress up in Rental Kimono

While visiting Kamakura, you might notice many Japanese around the city dressed in traditional kimono.  While some of these guests are actually wearing their own outfits, many are wearing kimonos they have rented just for the day. Why not join in on the fun of wandering around the city in traditional garb?

There are several shops around the city which rent kimono, and generally the more you spend, the more authentic your experience will be.  Real silk kimono with an attractive obi (sash) and other accessories can be expensive even to rent. If you don’t mind paying more, then probably Kamakura Kuroudo, which has been in business for over 100 years is the perfect choice.

If you are looking for something a bit simpler and budget friendly, then Iza Kimono Rental Shop just a bit north of the station on Wakamiya Oji (Street) is our recommendation. The space is light and modern, with friendly staff who will help you find the perfect outfit. The prices are very affordable, and renters can wear the outfit all day, as long as the kimono are returned by 5:30pm.

They also offer a few options, such as hair styling to compliment your look, or upgrading to the more expensive Nagoya obi.

Iza also runs a guesthouse near Hase Station which offers dorm rooms and private rooms, and is expanding their kimono rental services to Asakusa as well.
